The clinics are staffed by graduate student clinicians in counseling and psychology programs within the Department of Graduate Psychology. Graduate student clinicians are supervised by faculty who are licensed professional counselors or licensed clinical psychologists.

Dr. Atwood is the Director of JMU’s Counseling and Psychological Services, Interprofessional Services for Learning Assessment, and Page County Behavioral Health clinics at the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services. She is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Graduate Psychology. Dr. Atwood received a doctorate in Combined Integrated Clinical and School Psychology from James Madison University and is licensed as both a professional counselor and clinical psychologist in the state of Virginia. Prior to coming to the Institute, she worked with children and families in the community and in the school system.
Dr. Atwood completed an APA accredited internship at the W.G. Bill Hefner Veterans Affairs Medical Center, focusing on trauma, marriage, couple and family work, and primary care mental health integration. She is a credentialed Health Service Psychologist and is credentialed medical staff with Valley Health Page Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Harmison is the Kibler Professor of Sport Psychology in the Department of Graduate Psychology, the Director of Sport Psychology for JMU Athletics, and the Director of the Challace J. McMillin Center for Sport Psychology at JMU. In these roles he advises and supervises doctoral and master’s students, teaches courses and conducts scholarship in applied sport psychology, oversees and provides sport psychology services to JMU athletes and coaches, and directs educational sport psychology outreach programming to the athletic community in the surrounding region.
Dr. Harmison has been providing sport psychology consultation services to high school through elite level athletes and teams since 1993, including three U.S. Olympic Snowboard teams, ten U.S. national teams, one professional Major League Baseball organization, and four NCAA Division I universities. He received a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Texas and an M.S. in Exercise and Sport Sciences (Sport Psychology) from the University of Arizona. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia and is designated as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.

Dr. Owens is an Assistant Professor of Graduate Psychology at James Madison University and a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. She utilizes evidence-based treatment practices with a focus on cognitive and behavioral therapies. Dr. Owens has provided clinical services to children and families in a variety of settings including pediatric primary care, emergency homeless shelters, schools, private practice, and community mental health agencies. Dr. Owens has experience and expertise in both therapeutic and assessment services. Her unique training in school psychology also allows her to provide specialized educational consulting to assist families with navigating various school procedures and policies such as, special education services (IEP/504 plans), Response to Intervention (RTI), and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).

Dr. Savina teaches courses in assessment, school psychology, and supervises clinical practicum with children and their families in various settings. Her clinical experiences include serving as a child psychologist at Children Village - SOS (Lavrovo, Russia)—the world's largest child charity dedicated to orphans and abandoned children; a therapist at acute and residential psychiatric wards for children and adolescents; and a counselor at a school-based mental health clinic.
Dr. Savina has expertise in assessment, child psychotherapy, parenting training and education, school-based consultation and interventions. In her work, Dr. Savina systematically applies a socio-cultural approach, which emphasizes the role of contextual and interpersonal variables in children's development and mental health.

Dr. Schulte is a Clinical Professor Emeritus in the department Graduate Psychology at James Madison University. His is a licensed Clinical Psychologist, Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, and Health Service Psychologist. He has his doctorate in Combined-Integrated School-Counseling- and Clinical Psychology and serves as Senior Clinician in Residence with Counseling and Psychological Services Clinic at JMU. He has worked in integrated Pediatric and Primary Care medical practices, and maintains an active private practice. His areas of teaching and research include clinical supervision, integrated behavioral health and primary care, and pediatric psychological assessment.

Dr. Stewart is a Professor of Graduate Psychology at James Madison University. Dr. Stewart promotes resilience and attachment in children through projects around the world, including Sri Lanka and India following the tsunami. Dr. Stewart designed and implemented intervention and research programs addressing psychosocial problems resulting from landmines in Lebanon, Jordan, Bosnia, Vietnam, and Mozambique. She served as a consultant following Hurricane Katrina, the 9/11 attacks, the Virginia Tech shootings, and central Virginia earthquake. Along with colleagues and students, she provided play-based therapeutic services to children of deployed Virginia National Guard soldiers. Her writings include Play Therapy: A comprehensive guide to theory and practice, Creative Crisis Intervention Techniques with Children and Families and Suddenly Military: Play-based Interventions for Deployed National Guard and Reserve Families.
Dr. Stewart is the founder and president of the Virginia Association for Play Therapy and recipient of the national play therapy Distinguished Service Award, the JMU "All Together One" Award, the College Award for Distinguished Service, the Virginia Counselor's Association "Humanitarian and Caring Person" Award, and the Virginia State Council of Higher Education Outstanding Faculty Award.

Dr. Szwedo is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and serves as the Clinical and School Psychology Program Director in the Department of Graduate Psychology at James Madison University. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Virginia. Dr. Szwedo completed his APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the Medical College of Georgia / Charlie Norwood Veteran Affairs Medical Center and postdoctoral training at Counseling and Psychological Services at the Medical University of South Carolina. Through this training, Dr. Szwedo has gained experience working in community mental health, medical settings, student counseling centers, and with individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan.
