The goal of the Migrant Education Program (MEP) is to ensure that all migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma or complete a GED that prepares them for further learning, productive employment, and to be responsible community members.

The Shenandoah Valley Migrant Education Program (SVMEP) is one of 6 regional programs of the Virginia Migrant Education Program. It is a Federal Title I, part C program, under the No Child Left Behind Act, that is state-administered by the Office of Program Administration and Accountability at the Virginia Department of Education.

The Shenandoah Valley MEP serves the public school systems in the cities of Harrisonburg and Winchester and the counties of Clarke, Frederick, Fauquier, Rockingham, and Shenandoah. Our team includes 4 year-round, bilingual (Spanish/English) Migrant Educational Promoters, several work-study student employees and over 40 trained volunteer tutors.

Black Lives Matter

All black lives matter. They don’t just matter, they are precious, important, and valuable. The Shenandoah Valley Migrant Education Program is committed to anti-racist work and practices. We will continue to learn and change in order to be better partners in breaking down oppressive systems and ideas. We believe that change will occur through education and advocacy. We will continue to use our platform as advocates, mentors, and citizens to promote anti-racist values, exemplify an engaged citizenry, and build a community where all young people can flourish.
